Día de Muertos is here!
The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and helping support their spiritual journey. In Mexican culture, death is viewed as a natural part of the human cycle. Mexicans view it not as a day of sadness but as a day of celebration because their loved ones awake and celebrate with them.
I would love to see you and your family enjoy the festivities! Do not feel like you have to participate in the religious aspect of this festival, but instead see yourself as an explorer observing a new culture without judgement.
There are various celebrations going on all over Southern California. I have given you a link to one in Riverside taking place on November 2nd.
The assignment: Film and edit a video where you are at one of these celebrations, discussing the different things you are seeing and learning about. You must interview people as well.

I LOVE Pozole! A delicious, amazing Mexican stew that takes me back to my childhood - my abuelita loved to make it for us!
Never had it? THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!!!
First, read the attached article, "El origen del Pozole (The origin of Pozole)." Really neat story!
If you can't read Spanish, watch the video below about how to use the Translate add-on for Google Docs.
Next, go to the store and get the ingredients for the recipe below. There is a pork recipe and a chicken recipe (If your family already has a recipe use that!).
Film yourself making Pozole! As you film yourself (I recommend using a phone), discuss the article, the history, and your opinion about the article. Finish the video with you and your family/guardians eating the Pozole and discuss what you like/dislike about it - your own little food review! How does your family feel about the history of Pozole? Maybe don't tell them and get some reaction shots and tell them as they are eating it? Hahahahaha!!!
Upload the video to Youtube and submit the link as your answer. Your video should be between 2 and 4 minutes long.
Buen Provecho!
