To report an absence, you may do one of the following:
OR
Respond to the automated Parent Square message you have received via email to clear the Absence.
 
 
We do have a voicemail box that can receive messages for absences by calling (951) 845-4011. Due to the amount of calls and students we assist daily we are not able to answer attendance phone calls throughout the day.

Commonly asked questions:
 
Question: "How can I have my student checked out at a certain time to drive home on their own?" 
Answer: "Please send an email to [email protected] in advance and we will send a pass at the time you request for them to be let out of class."
 
Question: "Can my student come home early with their older sibling?" 
Answer: "The younger sibling can only come home with the older sibling if they are both leaving at the same time, unless the older sibling is 18. If the older sibling is 18 years of age they can sign the younger sibling, but must be added as an authorized pick up person in AERIES under the emergency contacts."
 
Question: "Can a friend or family member pick up my student?" 
Answer: "In order for a student to be picked up early the person picking the student up must be listed in AERIES under the emergency contacts as an authorized pick up person. If they are not listed as an authorized pick up person we will need to call you to verify it is ok for them to be her picking up your student."
 
Question: "How do I add someone to my emergency contacts in AERIES?" 
Answer: "You will need to log into your AERIES Parent Portal to add them. You cannot add them through the app, it must be the full portal on the AERIES web portal."
 
Question: "Why are you not answering? I have called multiple times and want to speak to someone" 
Answer: "The attendance office is a very busy department and although we try our best to answer the phones we are more than likely assisting a parent or student in person and cannot answer. Please leave a voicemail and we will listen to them at the end of the day or feel free to email us."
 
Question: "I have a doctor's note, how do I get it to you?" 
Answer: "You can have your student drop it off at the attendance office or you can email it directly to us."
 
Question: "My student has to be out for an extended period of time, what options do I have?" 
Answer: "We do offer options for independent study. We recommend you speak to the health office about your options."
 
Question: "Can my student leave campus for lunch?" 
Answer: "We offer the opportunity for our Junior (11th grade) and Senior (12th grade) students to apply for an off campus pass and are only given to these two grade levels. They must meet certain requirements to qualify like maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA and meet/maintain other attendance requirements. For any students that are Freshman (9th grade) or Sophomores (10th grade) that want to leave campus will have to be signed out by an approved person on their emergency card and signed back in upon return. "

The Law, Board Policy, and School Policy

Not only is attendance important for the health and growth of students, it is also the law and school policy. Missing 18 or more days from school is considered chronic absenteeism.

  • Ed. Code 48200 | Each person between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age is required to attend school full-time, unless otherwise exempt.
  • Ed. Code 48263.6 | Any student who is absent from school without a valid excuse for 10% or more of the school days in one school year, from the date of enrollment to the current date, is deemed a chronic truant.
  • Ed. Code 48293 | Failure to comply with the School Attendance Review Board* is an infraction and the parent may be fined up to $100 for the first violation, $250 for the second violation, or $500 for the third violation. Additional fines and fees may apply.
 
Board Policy 5113.1 and Administrative Regulation 5113.1 identifies the District's procedures and practices as it relates to chronic absences and truancy.
 

School Illness Guidelines

Sickness happens and you should never send your child to school if they are suffering from a contagious disease. Visit the the health services webpage for a complete checklist to determine if your child should be kept home. For information on home hospitalization, please review the requirements to see if your may qualify due to a temporary illness.

How Parents/Guardians Can Help

Children need you to be their loving coach. Help them gain the healthy life habits and academic benefits for a successful future by taking action today––

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Turn off cellphones, video-games, and computers before bedtime.
  • Avoid medical appointments and extended vacations during school days.
  • Ask us how we can support you if your child is experiencing anxiety about attending school.
  • If your student is absent, you are required to call or send a note to the attendance office within three days.
