On Thursday, October 18, students from Beaumont High school joined approximately 20 students from schools throughout the Inland Empire in competing in the Inland Empire Resource Conservation District speech contest, held in Highland. This year, the topic was "How can RCDs help landowners reduce the risk of fires?" BHS students Shumirai Soda and Remy Altuna won first and second place and third place was won by a student from Carter High School in Rialto. This is the second consecutive year BHS students have earned the top two spots in this contest as last year Katalina Peterson and Jamie Goodrich earned first place out of 28 students from 8 high schools. Last year Katalina won the state competition in Sacramento, and next month Shumirai will compete at the state competition in San Diego.
